Josef "Joe" Zinnbauer (born May 1, 1970 in Schwandorf ) is a German soccer coach , financial entrepreneur and former soccer player .

Player career

As a youth player, Zinnbauer already played in the first men's team of his home club FV Wendelstein . In 1989 he made the leap to the SVG Göttingen 07 , for which he played for a year before he returned to Franconia for TSV Vestenbergsgreuth . He then played one season each with SC 08 Bamberg and SpVgg Bayreuth , in 1993 he moved to SSV Ulm in 1846 in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg .

Second and First Bundesliga

With SSV Ulm, which was trained by Paul Sauter , Zinnbauer and his colleagues Marc Arnold , Markus Beierle , Klaus Perfetto and Dragan Trkulja reached the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga as champions of the league . However, as second in the table behind FSV Frankfurt , the club missed the return to the second division. Then some talented players left the club, including Zinnbauer, who moved to Karlsruher SC in the Bundesliga . Parallel to his playing career, he founded his own financial consulting company based in Nuremberg.

In Karlsruhe he remained without first division use. The following year he moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the 2. Bundesliga . In the first half of 1995/96 he completed 16 games; Due to a knee injury (cartilage damage), however, he then had to end his professional career. In the 1996/97 season he played fourth class at SG Post / Süd Regensburg , and in 1997/98 also at SC Weismain , before he had to give up professional football as a sports invalid.

Coaching career

Zinnbauer was already an amateur trainer in his time as an amateur player, his first stop was the SK run . He then worked as a player coach at TSV Wendelstein and Henger SV .

At the beginning of 2005 I got in contact with VfB Oldenburg , where Zinnbauer became head coach from June. In his first year he was tied with the team with SV Ramlingen / Ehlershausen second in the Lower Saxony League West . In the second year he was promoted to the Oberliga Nord . As a newcomer to the league, the team was on a promotion position for a long time, but just barely missed qualifying for the newly introduced three-pronged regional league as seventh in the table . Although he was at times under criticism, he led the team in the following season almost to promotion to the fourth division. As champions of the Oberliga Niedersachsen West, the club only failed after the away goals rule at East Master Goslarer SC 08 . With the goal given by the club to get among the top eight teams, he qualified at the end of the following season as second in the table for the single-track Oberliga Niedersachsen; Nevertheless, he was released from VfB Oldenburg on May 30, 2010 one day after the last game of the season, despite a contract valid until summer 2011. In the first half of the 2010/11 season he sat in with Thorsten Fink , then coach of FC Basel .

In December 2010, Zinnbauer completed an internship at Karlsruher SC under Uwe Rapolder , after which he received a contract as assistant coach from January 2011. After Rapolder's dismissal in March 2011, he was assistant coach under Rainer Scharinger until September 2011 and then co-trainer until March 2012 -Trainer from Jørn Andersen . After U23 coach Markus Kauczinski was promoted to head coach of the second division team on March 26, 2012, Zinnbauer took over the management of the KSC regional division team. Since the first team of KSC was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season, the second team had to play in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg from the 2012/13 season . Zinnbauer's team was twelfth and fifth there in the following seasons.

In 2014 Zinnbauer successfully completed the DFB's football teacher training course at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in Hennef and received the UEFA Pro license .

Hamburger SV

For the 2014/15 season he took over the second team (U23) of Hamburger SV from Rodolfo Cardoso . After eight victorious games in a row in the Regionalliga Nord , he succeeded Mirko Slomka on September 17, 2014 as the coach of the HSV Bundesliga team, which was last in the table . In his first game, his team played 0-0 at home against FC Bayern Munich . After two more defeats, Zinnbauer celebrated his first Bundesliga win on matchday 7 with a 1-0 win against Borussia Dortmund ; for HSV it was the first win of the season. It was also the first away win for Hamburg since the 3-0 win on October 27, 2013 at SC Freiburg . On October 27, 2014, Zinnbauer's U23 contract, which ran until June 30, 2016, was converted into a professional contract. By the end of the first half of the season, which ended in 14th place, Zinnbauer was able to stabilize the team mainly defensively. HSV had the fourth best defense in 17 first round matches with 19 goals conceded, but only scored nine goals.

On February 14, 2015, the 21st matchday, he lost 8-0 with HSV at Bayern Munich - the highest defeat in the history of the HSV Bundesliga. After the team had slipped to the relegation spot eight match days before the end of the season after six games without a win, Zinnbauer was released on March 22, 2015.

The young players Matti Steinmann , Tolcay Ciğerci , Ashton Götz , Mohamed Gouaida and Ronny Marcos made their debut in the Bundesliga under Zinnbauer . However, under Zinnbauer, HSV only scored 24 points in 23 games (six wins, six draws, eleven defeats) and only scored 16 goals by matchday 26. For the 2015/16 season , Zinnbauer took over the HSV U-23 again.

FC St. Gallen

On September 16, 2015, he became the new head coach of the Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen . He received a three-year contract. On May 4, 2017, he was released after five defeats in a row.

Trivia

Zinnbauer is an excellent motivator.

Career as a financial service provider

In addition to football, Zinnbauer initially completed an apprenticeship as a cutting machine operator and an insurance specialist . At 22, he became a sales representative for a large insurance company. He then founded a financial consultancy with which he soon earned several million DM . Because of this secondary career, which was unusual for a young professional footballer, he was invited by Günther Jauch as a studio guest in Das Aktuell Sportstudio in August 1994 .

Zinnbauer is the owner of the Zinnbauer group of companies based in Nuremberg.
