Martin Wilke (born November 15, 1926 ) is a former German soccer coach .

Life

After returning from captivity in 1947, he completed a second course at the Sports University in Cologne under the direction of Sepp Herberger, training as a football teacher. Course colleagues were Herbert Burdenski , Georg Gawliczek , Emil Izsó , Kuno Klötzer , Helmut Kronsbein and Klaus-Peter Kirchrath . At the same time, he studied teaching for English and geography . He was the first coach of Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga (1963/64 season), as well as in the Oberliga Nord the year before . In 1963 he and his team won the DFB Cup with 3-0 goals against Borussia Dortmund on August 14th in Hanover . In the 1963/64 European Cup Winners' Cup , he was in charge of HSV's three games in the second round against CF Barcelona . After the 4: 4 in the first leg and the 0: 0 in the second leg, a play-off took place on December 18, 1963 in Lausanne. The HSV won with 3-2 goals. In the quarter-finals, Wilke and his team were eliminated from Olympique Lyon in March 1964 by a 2-0 defeat - two goals by Nestor Combin . After the end of the premier season of the Bundesliga, Wilke's contract in Hamburg was not extended. His Bundesliga record: sixth place, 11 wins, 10 draws, 9 defeats.

Wilke's first engagement with Hamburger SV was from 1954 to 1956 in the Oberliga Nord. As the successor to Georg Knöpfle , he was responsible for the new HSV generation around Uwe Seeler and Klaus Stürmer together with Günter Mahlmann . The distribution of tasks was clear: Mahlmann, also managing director of the association, was the "handlebar" and Wilke was the man for the practical training. The titles in the north in 1955 and 1956 were won and thus made it into the finals of the German football championship . In each case you had to be content with the second group place. 1955 behind 1. FC Kaiserslautern and in 1956 tied with 9: 3 points behind Borussia Dortmund , who were able to prevail in the final with 4: 2 goals against Karlsruher SC.

In the Regionalliga Nord he looked after the red and blacks from the Marienthal stadium, SC Concordia Hamburg , in the rounds of 1964/65 to 1967/68.

Under Wilke, the Hamburg Association won the DFB country cup in 1959 and 1961.

After his career as a soccer coach, he taught at the Coppernicus Gymnasium in Norderstedt . Wilke has two daughters and lives in Norderstedt.
