Life

Career as a coach

Between 2005 and 2008 Moniz worked as a technical trainer for Tottenham Hotspur . Then he was hired by the then head coach of Hamburger SV , Martin Jol , as a technical trainer .

After Jol and his successor Bruno Labbadia had been dismissed as coach, Moniz took over the post of head coach of the Hamburg sports club on an interim basis from April 26 to June 30, 2010. Moniz was in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League with HSV , but was eliminated with a 2-1 defeat against Fulham .

For the 2010/11 season, Moniz moved to Red Bull as a youth coordinator . There he was until April 8, 2011 for the youth departments of the Red Bull-run and sponsored clubs FC Red Bull Salzburg ( Austria ), RB Leipzig ( Germany ), New York Red Bulls ( USA ), Red Bull Brasil ( Brazil ) and Red Bull Ghana ( Ghana ).

On April 8, 2011, after separating from Huub Stevens, he was appointed head coach of the first team at FC Red Bull Salzburg. He was also entrusted with the duties of sports director until the end of the 2010/11 season. In early May 2011 he was confirmed as an assistant coach for at least another two years as a coach together with Niko Kovač . In Moniz's first full season as head coach, Red Bull Salzburg won the double consisting of championship and trophy for the first time .

On June 12, 2012, Moniz resigned with immediate effect, allegedly denying offers from other clubs that were in the room. He terminated his contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg , which ran until 2013 . In a later newspaper interview, he cited the reasons for the lack of support from management and irreconcilable differences with the head of the club's training center, Bernd Pansold .

On August 22, 2012, he became the coach of the Hungarian record champions Ferencváros Budapest . In December 2013 he was dismissed by Ferencváros due to unsuccessfulness. At the end of March 2014, he signed a contract with the Polish first division club Lechia Gdańsk that ran until the end of the season .

During the summer break of 2014, Moniz signed a two-year contract as coach of TSV 1860 Munich, which started on June 20, 2014 . After a weak start to the season, Moniz was relieved of his duties after a 1-0 defeat against SV Sandhausen . At this point in time, the team from 1860 Munich was ranked 13th in the table with six points from seven games.

From April to December 2015 Moniz coached the English football club Notts County , which played in the third division in the 2014/15 season . At the end of the season he rose with the team in the fourth-class League Two . In December 2015, Moniz was released.

For the 2016/17 season Moniz was the coach of his former club FC Eindhoven . He resigned on May 19, 2017.
