Günter Mahlmann
Günter Mahlmann (born October 8, 1908 , † August 22, 1975 ) was a German football coach .
Act
When Carl-Heinz Mahlmann took over the chairmanship of Hamburger SV in January 1951 , his younger brother Günter Mahlmann acted as managing director and trainer of the youth department. In 1954 Günter Mahlmann took over the 1st team together with Martin Wilke . According to Günter Schlegel , the distribution of tasks was as follows: “Wilke did the training. Mahlmann was sitting opposite in the office and from there pulled the strings and established the contacts. He was more like the manager. ”In addition to the player commitments, Mahlmann laid the foundation for later success with long-term continuity and planning. This also included the concept of relying on talent from "his" own youth and the amateurs. The Mahlmann duo did the club very well and under their patronage the talents Uwe Seeler , Gert Dörfel , Horst Schnoor , Jürgen Werner , Klaus Stürmer , and Gerhard Krug matured. From 1956/57 to 1961/62, Günter Mahlmann, now the sole head coach, led HSV to six championships in a row in the Oberliga Nord and was three times the North German cup winner (1957, 1959, 1960). He and his team reached the final three times in the final round of the German soccer championship ( 1957 , 1958 , 1960 ), on June 25, 1960, Hamburger SV won the third German championship after a 3-2 win against 1. FC Köln Club history. In addition, HSV reached the semi-finals in the European Cup for the first time in 1961 . After the two-way leg against CF Barcelona (now FC Barcelona) it was a draw, and in the decider on May 3, 1961, Hamburger SV lost 1-0.
After the 1961/62 season, Günter Mahlmann ended his successful coaching career at Hamburger SV. With six to eight years of activity - depending on what you look at - he was the longest continuously employed HSV coach of all time, and he also won the most titles (11). His predecessor was then his successor again: Martin Wilke.
