Soccer

history

The first soccer team played only at the district level until well into the 1960s. In 1966 they were promoted to the district class, where the team was able to hold out for four years. A 6-0 defeat against VfL Lintorf in the decider against relegation sealed the move to the district league at the time. It took until 1977 before the Bersenbrücker could again rise to the district league. Two years later he was promoted to the district league as a champion. In the district league, the team did not go beyond mediocrity and rose again in 1986 in the district class. A year later the direct rise was achieved, which was followed in 1989 by marching through to the Weser / Ems regional league .

There the TuS under coach Klaus Berger immediately became runner-up behind SV Olympia Laxten . At the same time, the team won the Lower Saxony Cup with a 3-2 penalty shoot-out against Sportfreunde Ricklingen . After 120 goalless minutes in front of 2,500 spectators in their own stadium, TuS goalkeeper Hubert Wessel was able to save two penalties . A few days followed the promotion round to the national league . First, the TuS defeated in Leese the Wolfenbütteler SV with 9: 8 in the penalty shoot-out, before the Bersenbrücker by a 2: 1 victory over Sparta Langenhagen in Steimbke made perfectly the rise. Bernd Sander turned the gap between the two with his two goals.

By winning the Lower Saxony Cup, TuS qualified for the DFB Cup, where the team met Hannover 96 in the first round . The Hanoverians won 4-0 in front of 3,500 spectators. In 1994 he was promoted to the Lower Saxony League West , where fifth place was achieved in 1997. A year later, he was relegated to the Weser / Ems regional league before, after several years in midfield, he was promoted to the Lower Saxony league in 2001. Three descents in a row led the Bersenbrückers in 2005 to the district class. There, after a league reform, the team was able to qualify for the Weser / Ems District League, Group 5.

In 2015 the TuS became champion of the district league and rose to the state league. In the following 2015/16 season, the Bersenbrückers were again champions and were promoted to the Lower Saxony Oberliga . In the league season 2017/18 TuS played again for the championship. A license for the Regionalliga Nord was waived for financial and infrastructural reasons. In 2019 , the Bersenbrückers reached the final of the Lower Saxony Cup for Amateurs. This was lost to league rivals SV Atlas Delmenhorst 2: 3, which meant that another participation in the DFB Cup was missed.
