The Japanese national futsal team is a representative selection of Japanese futsal players . The team represents the Japanese Football Association at international matches. The team is one of the strongest teams in Asia behind Iran.

Performing in tournaments

Japan was invited by FIFA to the first World Cup in 1989, but was eliminated from the bottom of the group after losing to Belgium, Argentina and Canada. As a result, they failed to qualify three times before taking part in the World Cup finals for the second time in 2004. Also in the second participation they placed themselves at the end of the group, but fought for a point against the USA. In 2008 they finished third in the preliminary group after victories over Cuba and the Solomon Islands.

At the Asian Championships, Iran was usually left behind. In total, they met Iran ten times in the semifinals or finals, four times they lost in the semifinals and five times in the final. Only in 2006 did they prevail in the semi-finals with 5: 1 and then won the competition with a 5: 1 final victory over Uzbekistan. In 2012 the team became Asian champions for the second time after beating Thailand 6-1 in the final.
