The 2016 Asian Futsal Cup took place in Uzbekistan from February 10 to February 21, 2016 . This was the fourteenth edition of the tournament. After 2006 and 2010, Uzbekistan hosted the tournament for the third time. The Republic of China was originally intended to be the host and the time of the tournament was set from March 12th to 27th, 2016, but had to be changed due to the FIFA International Futsal Calendar. As in previous editions of the tournament, the top five teams qualified for the 2016 Futsal World Cup .
The draw took place on September 2, 2015. A total of 16 teams qualified for the tournament. The qualification took place from October 1 to November 19, 2015 in Malaysia, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Thailand. As Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Kuwait were among the top four teams at the 2014 Asian Futsal Cup, they were automatically qualified. Usually only the top three teams were automatically qualified for the tournament. However, since Uzbekistan is automatically qualified as third place and as the host, fourth place Kuwait moved up.
The winners qualified for the Futsal World Cup 2016 , the losers played in the playoff round for 5th place, which also qualified for participation in the World Cup.
