action

Astrophysicist Ryoichi Shiraishi, his fiancée Hiroko, his sister Etsuko and his friend Joji Atsumi observe a fire in a nearby forest during a festival on Mount Fuji . Shiraishi immediately leaves to investigate the fire.

The next day Atsumi reports to Tanjiro Adachi, the chief astronomer of the observatory, of Shiraishi's discovery, an asteroid Shiraishi called the Mysteroid, which Shiraishi believed was once a planet between Mars and Jupiter . Adachi doubts this theory and considers Shiraishi's report to be incomplete.

When Atsumi and some police officers are investigating a village destroyed by an earthquake, a giant robot appears. After unsuccessful shelling by the military, the robot can only be destroyed when it enters the Koyama Bridge and it is detonated below it. When examining the wreckage of the robot, it turned out that it consisted of a chemical compound unknown on Earth.

When the astronomers discovered activities around the moon a little later , the Mysterians, an extraterrestrial life form, appear and make their demands: After their home planet Mysteriod was destroyed after a nuclear war and some Mysterians were able to flee to Mars, they now want to go to the Settle earth. They also want to mate with human women in order to stabilize their genetic material after the effects of strontium 90 in the nuclear war and to produce healthier descendants. To this end, they have already kidnapped three women and are interested in two more, including Etsuko.

Shiraishi, who had previously revealed to Atsumi that he wants to break off his engagement to Hiroko, joins the Mysterians, fascinated by the advanced technology of the aliens.

An attack by the military on the Mysterians fails. Then Japan asked other nations for help. With the help of the other nations and using newly developed fighting machines, a new attack on the Mysterians starts, but this also fails.

The Mysterians then demand a larger settlement area and also kidnap Etsuko and Hiroko. In search of the two women, Atsumi manages to penetrate the headquarters of the Mysterians. In the meantime, a newly developed electron gun is used against the Mysterians. Shiraishi has now recognized the true intentions of the Mysterians and sacrifices himself in a joint attempt with Atsumi to overcome them.

The abducted women can be freed; the headquarters of the Mysterians will be destroyed and they will be driven from the earth.

Reviews

"A Japanese imitation of relevant Hollywood products, with massive amounts of flying saucers, space fortresses, rockets and radiation cannons, which at the time the film was made were thought to be imaginary devices and which today contribute to involuntary amusement."
