U 2000 - Tauchfahrt des Horens ( Japanese 海底 軍艦 , Kaitei Gunkan , German “Untersee Warship”) is a Japanese science fiction film from Toho Studios from 1963 .
The plot is based on the highly influenced Jules Verne youth novel series Kaitei Gunkan by Shunrō Oshikawa and on the illustrated sequel story Kaitei Ōkoku ("The Kingdom under Water") by the illustrator Shigeru Komatsuzaki, which appeared in a monthly magazine for boys. With his drawings, Komatsuzaki also provided templates that were incorporated into the visual design of the film, such as: B. the submarine.

The fabulous submerged continent of Mu appears again and threatens to usurp world domination. The states are banding together to resist. Hachiro Shinguji, a captain from the Second World War, built the heavily armed flying and submarine U 2000 ( 轟天 号 , Gōtengō ), the largest warship of all time. It is the only hope in the world to defend itself. The captain initially refuses to make U 2000 available for the fight against Mu, as he intended it to revive the Japanese Empire to its old great power position after its defeat in the war. After his daughter and her boyfriend are kidnapped by an agent Mus, the captain is ready to cooperate. U 2000 is armed with a cold cannon, which succeeds in destroying Mu's geothermal energy supply and averting the threat.
