action

The Helios 7 rocket disappears without a trace on its way to Jupiter . Shortly afterwards, press photographer Tarō Kudō sees them falling from an airplane into the Southwest Pacific. Back home, his editor-in-chief doesn't believe him. Shortly afterwards, the young Ayako Hoshino speaks to him. She is looking for a photographer who will travel with her and her team to a remote island in the Southwest Pacific to capture the area photographically. Your company plans to build a holiday complex on the island. Kudo's friend Dr. Miya wants to take part in the expedition because there are said to be primeval animals on the island. Kudō, in turn, agrees to the trip, as the location of the island corresponds to the place where the rocket crashed into the sea.

On the ship to the island, Kudō, Hoshino and Dr. Miya know the supposed scientist Obata, who joins them. On the island, meanwhile, the fishermen Sakura and Yokoyama are attacked by a giant octopus ; Sakura dies. Yokoyama, who receives the travelers ashore, refuses to talk about the incident. The islanders, in turn, know the creature by the name of Gezora and begin with conciliatory prayers under the guidance of the island's elder Ombo. Shortly afterwards, in a cave, the travelers see a blue glow that makes Yokoyama panic, Gezora announced. Shortly afterwards, the giant octopus destroys the fishermen's hut and also attacks the native Rico. He lets go of it, appearing as bats; Rico goes into shock and can no longer speak. It is brought to the local village by travelers. Meanwhile, Obata turns out to be a spy for Hoshino's competition in Tokyo , who was supposed to scout out plans for the resort. He is convicted of Kudo and admits everything. However, fighting the monsters is more important.

Kudō and Dr. Miya take a dive off the island and find the crashed Helios 7 in the sea. Shortly afterwards, they are attacked by Gezora, but are able to escape the monster when a school of dolphins appears. Gezora attacks and devastates the local village. The researchers succeed in driving the monster away with fire. Gezora burns and falls dead into the sea. A blue swarm of light escapes from the creature and turns into a cancer, which mutates and attacks the island shortly afterwards. Obata apparently dies in the process; Kudō succeeds in killing the cancer. However, the blue swarm of light passes into Obata, who now has superhuman powers. A voice sounds that makes it clear that the light is extraterrestrial life that wants to usurp world domination over Obata and other mutated beings. Another cancer and a turtle mutate. Kudō and Dr. Meanwhile, Miya have also recognized that the mutations must be of extraterrestrial origin. Rico wakes up and reports that the bats chased the monster away. The scientists conclude that sound irritates the aliens. They want to organize bats to fight the monsters, but only find animals in a cave. Obata appears and the researchers soon realize that he is externally controlled. He wants to start a fire in the cave to kill the animals. Hoshino appeals to the rest of his human self, and Obata leaves after setting fire but opening the cave exits. Not far from the island's volcano, the monster crab and the monster turtle meet, are swarmed around by bats and fight each other until the volcano erupts and kills both. Obata, in turn, plunges into the lava and perishes.

criticism

For the film service , monsters of horror were attacking a "utopian horror film, which, however, has some [...] approaches [...] to deepen philosophical knowledge". It is "confused and naive, but quite entertaining for friends of the genre." "The rubber monster trash [...] is wonderfully meaningless fun," said Cinema .
