Command from the Dark ( Japanese 怪 獣 大 戦 争 , Kaijū daisensō ) is a Japanese film by the director Ishirō Honda . It is the sixth part of the Godzilla series of the Tōhō studio and the first film in the series in which an American (Nick Adams) plays from the beginning.
action
A new planet appears near Jupiter . This is called Alpha 707 (in the US version and in the Japanese original Planet X). Two astronauts, the American Glenn Amer and the Japanese Kazuo Fuji, are sent on a mission to this place. There they meet highly developed aliens called Alphas who have fled under the planet's surface for fear of the attacks of the monster Ghidorah . To fight Ghidorah, the Alphas ask the humans to let them have the two earth monsters Godzilla and Rodan . After these have been brought to the alien planet, a fight between the three monsters breaks out and the two astronauts fly home with the supposed cure for cancer (as thanks for "borrowing" the monsters). There, however, this turns out to be an ultimatum from the aliens to mankind to withdraw into the arid areas of the earth so that it can be colonized by the alphas. Otherwise they would attack the earth with the help of the three monsters now under their control.
Meanwhile, on Earth, camouflaged agents of the aliens are trying to prevent the production of a portable alarm system, since their signals are fatal for the alphas. However, this does not succeed, and so with the help of this alarm system the invasion is repelled and the aliens are killed. The three monsters brought along are then no longer subject to control and run amok. In the ensuing fight, the two earth monsters Godzilla and Rodan first defeat Ghidorah and then fall together into the sea.
Trivia
The idea that the aliens are defeated by certain sounds was incorporated into Mars Attacks by Tim Burton in 1996 .
Nick Adams (astronaut Glenn Amer) and Kumi Mizuno (Miss Namikawa) not only played the lovers on screen, they were also in real life.
In the German version, numerous dialogues and monster scenes have been removed. a. also the famous scene in which Godzilla performed a ridiculous looking joy dance on Planet X.
reception
The production costs for the film were around 3.4 million US dollars, and the grossing results were around 5.13 million US dollars.
The film received a rating of 60 percent positive from the critics on the Rotten Tomatoes website .
“Science fiction film with a lot of technical finesse and a mishmash of plot elements. (TV title: 'Godzilla versus Monster Zero') "
“Apart from huge pyrotechnic magic, the film offers nothing, absolutely nothing that has not already been seen in the cinema in some way […]. [...] Capital nonsense. "
