Godzilla vs. Megaguirus ( jap. ゴジラ×メガギラスG消滅作戦 , Gojira tai Megagirasu: shômetsu sakusen Ji ., Dt "Godzilla × Megaguirus - Mission elimination G") is a Japanese monster movie ( Kaiju Eiga) in 2000 and the 24th film of Godzilla -Line. Directed by Masaaki Tezuka . This film follows a different timeline than the rest of the films. The film was released in Germany on August 25, 2006 on VHS .

action

The film begins with a look back at the history of Japan since Godzilla's first appearance near the island of Odo and the destruction of Tokyo in 1954. Godzilla also attacked the Tōkai nuclear power plant twelve years later and destroyed it completely, prompting the Japanese government to phase out nuclear power immediately, so as not to lure him anymore. This resulted in an energy reform in which one tried unsuccessfully to obtain energy from other resources, which, however, was insufficient to replace the nuclear power plant. It was only in 1996 that the chief scientist of the Clean Energy Factory, Motohiko Sugiura, was able to present a promising alternative in the new capital Osaka - a plasma power plant that generates energy from heavy hydrogen.

However, this energy does not prove to be a success either, since Godzilla attacks Osaka in the same year and moves unstoppably to the Clean Energy Factory. A company under the army officer Miyakawa, which also includes Kiriku Tsujimori, opposes the dinosaur and tries to stop him or lead him in another direction. An attack with rocket launchers fails. Miyakawa orders the withdrawal, but Tsujimori continues to try without success. Godzilla destroys the building, the ruins of which the soldiers threaten to spill. To save Tsujimori, Miyakawa pushes her aside and saves her life, but dies in the process.

Four years later, Tsujimori helped set up G-GRASPER , a unit that aims to study Godzilla and protect the population from him. The young microelectronics engineer Hajime Kudo is recruited to complete a planned project to eliminate the dinosaur. The project, led by former Clean Energy Factory scientists including Sugiura and Professor Yoshizawa, is building a weapon that will fire a black hole at Godzilla from a satellite in space, devouring Godzilla. To avoid major damage, the black hole should be reduced to two meters. When the weapon is completed and tested in a remote and militarily cordoned off area, it actually succeeds in devouring an empty building.

The boy Jun watched everything; when caught, he promises Tsujimori that he will remain silent. The following night, however, he is surprised by a large insect in his sleep; he follows it all the way to the test site and sees the insect fly into a replica of the black hole. He comes across an insect egg that he takes with him when moving to Tokyo. There he notices how the egg produces a huge amount of water and throws it into the sewer system.

As a result, the water overflows from all channels and insect-like creatures attack people without being recognized. When Jun himself was attacked, he confides in Tsujimori and confesses to having thrown the egg into the sewer. The primeval insect, a meganulon, has evolved into a meganula.

When Godzilla was located a little later near the Ogasawara Islands during an attack on the Meganula, Tsujimori flies there with two GRASPER soldiers in a Gryphon (a special aircraft) to investigate the incidents. When she and Okumura sight the Meganula's carcass, Godzilla appears right below them. While Okumura is pulled back aboard the Gryphon, Tsujimori remains in the water and clings to Godzilla's back. You manage to shoot him in the back with a tracking device. With an SGS (a submarine with an underwater camera) Godzilla will be followed.

Shortly afterwards, the anti-G weapon called Dimension Tide is shot into space and is ready for use. Another scientific investigation also confirms Jun's suspicion: The insect that attacked humans and Godzilla is probably actually a meganula - but the scientists are still unsure because they actually only move in swarms.

Meanwhile, more terrible news comes from Shibuya. The entire district is under water, traffic is brought to a standstill by the refugees and the rescue operations and evacuation are proving to be difficult. With the help of a mini-SGS, the origin of the flood should be investigated. The GRASPER finds dozens more eggs.

Godzilla is also on the move again, so it is decided to use the dimension Tide. In addition, GRASPER lures him to the uninhabited island of Kiganjima. Meanwhile, a swarm of meganula has formed and they fly to Kiganjima at high speed. Once there, they attack Godzilla and prevent the use of the dimension Tide, which has problems with targeting. The meganula attach themselves to Godzilla's body, sting him and sucking energy from him. With a lot of effort, Godzilla manages to drive away the insects until the last meganula flee towards Shibuya. As a result, the dimension Tide can now capture Godzilla and hit him with a black hole. But Godzilla survives and follows the Meganula to Tokyo.

Once in Shibuya, the meganula transfer their energy to a larger insect and die. Because the radio traffic is disturbed and Kudo's Mini-SGS is inoperative, he sets out to observe the phenomenon and repair the devices. At that moment, the giant insect comes to life, appears and uses high ultrasound waves to cause great damage in Shibuya.

Many soldiers were killed in the attack, Kudo survived seriously injured. According to his reports, the attack came from the Megaguirus. Godzilla is also approaching Tokyo, which results in an evacuation. While trying to find out what draws him to Tokyo, GRASPER attacks him and tries to lure him to the harbor in order to protect the buildings. But suddenly Megaguirus appears and attacks Godzilla, while the Gryphon with Tsujimori on board crashes due to the ultrasonic waves of the giant insect and has to make an emergency landing.

A fight between Godzilla and Megaguirus breaks out, while GRASPER wants to fire the dimension tide at both giant monsters. But just like the aircraft, the remote control of the anti-G weapon fails because the ultrasonic waves from Megaguirus disrupt radio traffic. Kudo, who went to the command center despite the injuries, tries to bring the dimension tide back under control.

Meanwhile, the battle between the giant monsters is still raging. Megaguirus manages to stab Godzilla and suck energy from him. But the dinosaur defends itself and manages to bite off the sting of Megaguirus, so that its energy sucker is no longer a danger. Without new energy, the giant insect has no chance and is killed by Godzilla and his heat ray.

Megaguirus' death also restores radio communications, but Dimension Tide is out of control and the satellite threatens to crash and burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. However, Godzilla inexorably strides through Tokyo towards the national science institute and destroys it. When Tsujimori, Sugiura, and Yoshizawa arrive, they realize that Sugiura was illegally researching plasma energy under the unofficial patronage of the prime minister. Another energy leak in the institute ultimately lured Godzilla to Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Kudo manages to get Dimension Tide ready to fire. However, the crash cannot be prevented. Due to the frictional heat, it is also not possible to aim at Godzilla directly, which is why Tsujimori comes up with a daring plan: She wants to direct the target acquisition on the Gryphon, which is supposed to hover over Godzilla. It works: Dimension Tide fires a black hole shortly before it is destroyed, which hits both the Gryphon and Godzilla. The attack succeeds, Godzilla has disappeared and Tsujimori can save himself at the last second.

After defeating Godzilla, Kudo goes back to work in his small shop, while Jun looks after his insect collection at school. When an earthquake shook the school, he saw Godzilla with a startled look, who apparently survived after all.
