Jörg Buttgereit (born December 20, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German author , film, radio play and theater director and film critic .

Life

Buttgereit became known in the German horror film and splatter genre through his films Nekromantik and Schramm . These films have also appeared in Japan, the UK and the US. As a director he worked for feature films that can be added to horror films and art films.

He works as a film critic for epd Film , the film magazine ray, the Berlin city magazine tip , Splatting Image , the film magazine deadline and the online youth magazine fluter . He also produced radio plays for public broadcasters.

In May 2005 he staged the Ramones musical Gabba Gabba Hey in the Columbia Club in Berlin . In 2006 he published a book about the Japanese "giant monster cinema" in which authors deal with Godzilla and similar monsters. "Godzilla" is one of Buttgereit's favorite subjects, which he has already dealt with in two radio works, a documentary film and two books.

In November 2007, the play Captain Berlin vs. Hitler premiere in the Hebbel Theater "(HAU1)" in Berlin. The piece is based on Buttgereit's own radio play Captain Berlin vs. Dracula , which was created in 2006 for West German Broadcasting Corporation. Buttgereit edited and staged the play for the stage and appeared as the monster Germanikus, patched up from body parts of German soldiers . The character of the German superhero Captain Berlin was conceived by Buttgereit for a short film in 1982. The comics series Captain Berlin has been published by Weissblech Verlag since 2013 , for which Buttgereit is responsible as author and editor.

From March 2009 to March 2010, Buttgereit staged a five-part series of Buttgereit's film lessons under the title RoughCuts in the Hebbel Theater , in which he staged lectures, performances and film discussions on various film genres.

In the film Making of Süße Stuten 7 - Die Porno-Comedy (2009) Buttgereit plays the role of a porn director.

In 2011 Buttgereit staged a stage version of his radio plays Sexmonster and Green Frankenstein in the studio of Schauspiel Dortmund . In 2012, a stage version of his radio play Ed Gein Superstar was staged under the title Cannibals and Love in the studio of Schauspiel Dortmund. The following year, Buttgereit staged a stage version of Bernard Pomerance's Broadway play The Elephant Man in the Dortmund Schauspiel studio , which focused on the case of Joseph Merrick . In 2014 he staged his play Nosferatu lives! and 2015 Obsessed again in the studio of the Schauspiel Dortmund.

In 2015 the episode film German Angst was completed, for which Buttgereit realized an episode. The other directors involved were Michal Kosakowski and Andreas Marschall .
