Portein Reformed Church

Portein (Romansh: Purtagn ) was a municipality in the former county Thusis , District Hinterrhein of the Canton of Grisons in Switzerland . Portein is located on the Heinzenberg , the south-east facing western boundary of the Domleschg .

On January 1, 2010, the municipalities of Cazis , Portein, Präz , Sarn and Tartar merged to form the new municipality of Cazis .

Description: In silver (white) an upright, red armored, black bear , carrying a golden (yellow) tree trunk. The bear carrying the tree trunk is the attribute of St. Gallus (saint) , the patron of the reformed village church .

Portein always had a small population. The high was reached in 1850 with 65, the low in 1980 with 19 people. As of December 31, 2001, the political municipality of Portein was the smallest municipality in Switzerland with 22 inhabitants. At the end of 2004 the community had 24 inhabitants and is, together with Martisberg , the second smallest community in Switzerland.

languages

Originally, Sutselvisch , a Graubünden Romanesque dialect , was spoken in the community . Romansh began to decline in the 19th century. In 1870 the proportion fell to 50%, in 1888 to 45% (21 of the 47 residents), and in 1910 to 20% (6 of the 30 residents). The language situation remained stable until the Second World War. Since 1990 there are no more Romansh speakers in the community.

Origin and nationality

Of the 21 residents at the end of 2005, 18 (= 85.71%) were Swiss citizens.
