Prec (Rhaeto-Romanic Prez or Preaz ) was a political municipality in the former district of Thusis in the Hinterrhein district of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.
On January 1, 2010, the municipalities of Cazis , Portein , Präz, Sarn and Tartar merged to form the new municipality of Cazis .

Description: In silver an upright red lion. The lion as a traditional heraldic animal on Heinzenberg in the colors of the Counts of Werdenberg -Heiligenberg, who carried a red church flag in a silver shield.
geography
The place is on the eastern slope of the Heinzenberg west of the Hinterrhein . It consists of the clustered village of Präz, the 800 m south of Dalin (1236 m above sea level), Raschlegnas (800 m northeast of the village; 947 m) as well as Maiensässen and individual farms. Of the entire former municipal area of 1133 hectares, 543 hectares are covered by forest and wood. Almost as much - 513 hectares - can be used for agriculture, the greater part of it as alpine meadows. The remainder of the former community area consists of 45 ha of unproductive area - mostly mountains - and 32 ha of settlement area. Below the village are the ruins of Heinzenberg Castle .

languages
The original language of the population was Sutselvisch , a Romansh dialect. All residents spoke this language until around 1850. This was followed by the advance of the German language. In 1880 90% and in 1910 69% said Romansh was their mother tongue. Until the Second World War, Romansh was able to maintain a slim majority (59% in 1941); In 1970 there were 42% Romansh speakers and since 1970 the language change has accelerated further. Since 1990 Romansh has been of little importance and is still spoken by 8%. The official language is German. The following table shows the development over the last few decades:
