Rongellen lies on the edge of the Viamala, halfway between Thusis and Zillis. Neighboring communities of Rongellen are Lohn , Thusis , Sils im Domleschg and Zillis-Reischen .

languages
The community residents have spoken German since the settlement in the Middle Ages. It is unclear whether they are descended from immigrant Walsers . Up until the beginning of the First World War, there were always Romansh-speaking immigrants from the surrounding communities (share in 1900 22%, 1910 17%). Today, this group of people only includes individual people, as the following table shows:

Special
Rongellen has been the municipality with the lowest tax rate in Graubünden for several years (around 1999). It is 30% of the simple cantonal tax.
