coat of arms
Blazon : diagonally right divided by blue and gold (yellow), each covered with a six-pointed star in alternating colors. The oblique division and star come from the coat of arms of the Juvalta family, which is connected to the local history. The arrangement of the two stars symbolizes the position of the two places Ober- and Unter- different.
geography
The former mountain farming community is located east of the Hinterrhein on a hillside terrace. The eastern border of the area was formed by a mountain range between the Fulhorn ( 2529 m above sea level ) in the south and the Dreibündenstein ( 2160 m above sea level ) in the north. To the west of this is another striking mountain, the Tgom Aulta ( 2085 m above sea level ). The former municipality consisted of the districts of Purz (German: Oberscheid, 1329 m ) and Sched (German: Unterscheid, 1221 m ), the hamlet of Laschignas ( 1067 m ) and various farms and Maiensässen . Of the total area of 1230 hectares, 533 hectares were agriculturally usable, most of which were used as alpine pastures. In addition, an area of almost the same size of 516 hectares was covered by forest and wood. In the east of the area, mountains rise, which made up 155 hectares of unproductive area. The remainder of 26 ha was settlement area.
history
On January 1, 2009, the former political community Scheid merged with Feldis / Veulden , Trans and Tumegl / Tomils to form the municipality of Tomils . Since January 1, 2015 Scheid has been a parliamentary group of the newly founded political community Domleschg .

Originally the population spoke Sutselvisch , a Romansh language. In 1880 the community at that time was almost monolingual with 98% Romansh speakers. This remained so until 1970 (97% in 1910, 92% in 1941, 94% Romansh speakers in 1970). Since then, Romansh began to decline - but novels remained in the majority until 1980. A rapid language change took place, as the following table shows:
