Pratval is a village in the political municipality of Domleschg , which is in the Domleschg district in the Viamala region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .
geography
The former municipality lies east of the Hinterrhein on a plateau and consists of the districts Dorf along the main road, Schloss Rietberg and Klein Rietberg . Of the entire 80 hectare former municipal area, 44 hectares can be used for agriculture. A further 21 hectares are covered by forest and wood and the remaining 14 hectares are settlements.
The Rietberg Castle and the ruins of Hasensprung Castle are located in the former municipality of Pratval .

Until December 31, 2014, Pratval was a political municipality . On January 1, 2015, it merged with the communities of Almens , Paspels , Rodels and Tomils to form the new community of Domleschg .

languages
The original language of the former community was Sutselvisch , a Graubünden Romance dialect , but this already lost the majority around 1890. While there were 65% Romansh speakers in 1880, it was 43% in 1900 and only 19% in 1910. Today German dominates and Romansh is hardly of any importance. Only 8% of the population understand Romansh and the official language is German.
