Erwin Poeschel

Erwin Poeschel (born July 23, 1884 in Kitzingen am Main (Bavaria); † July 21, 1965 in Kilchberg ZH ) is best known for his work as an art historian .

Live and act

Poeschel studied law in Munich and worked as a lawyer in Kempten (Allgäu) . In 1913 he moved to the Deutsche Heilstätte in Davos because of his pulmonary tuberculosis . From the end of March 1914 until the summer of 1915 he lived with his future wife in the Mossiers guesthouse, Vila Rusticana in Davos. With his wife Frieda geb. Ernst took over the "Stolzenfels" pension until 1928, when he became friends with the writer Klabund and the painters Jakob Wassermann and Augusto Giacometti , among others .

Then he started working as an art historian. He worked as an inventor and wrote numerous papers on architectural monuments. In 1927 he was one of the founders of the Swiss Castle Association . In 1926, he requested and received from the Swiss Engineers and Architects SIA of Davos, the Swiss citizenship .

In 1929 Poeschel moved to Zurich , where he graduated from the University of Zurich in 1933 as Dr. phil. hc was appointed.

Poeschel's library has been kept in the Graubünden State Archives in Chur since 1966 . With numerous manuscripts, photos and over 2500 books, it is one of the most extensive private holdings in the State Archives.
