In 1850, the Bündner Monatsblatt became the “Bündnerisches MONTHLY”. Journal for the history of Graubünden, Landes- u. Folklore »was founded at Gasser & Eggerlin in Chur and, along with the Bündner calendar, is one of the oldest magazines in the canton. It appears four times a year.

history

1891, first page

The founder of the Bündner monthly newspaper was a group of historically and culturally interested men. The subtitle was: "Journal for Education, Poor Management and Economics". In 1870/71 the magazine appeared under the title “Volksblatt, Schweiz. Journal of Economics and Ethnology ». In addition to agricultural topics, entertaining and scientific reading should not be neglected. The plan to have the paper appear every fortnight from the spring of 1872 failed.

In 1881 it was re-published as the “Bündnerisches Monatsblatt” ([1st] new series) under the direction of State Archivist Meisser. It should again be a collection organ for scientific, non-profit associations and museums in the canton. However, Meisser had to capitulate again after a year. In 1896 he made a second attempt with more employees ([2.] New series). Although the paper appeared successfully for seven years, it went back in 1904; it became a victim of the newspaper Rhätia, edited by a pastor from Castiel .

In 1914 the booklet appeared again, this time under the direction of the historian Friedrich Pieth , who edited it until 1951. Since then, the Bündner monthly newspaper has been published without interruption. The program published by Pieth in 1914 is still largely valid today. The subjects of history, literary and linguistic history, art and social life, architecture, individual buildings, nature and heritage protection as well as all areas of the visual arts were mentioned. Pieth also mentioned social issues, travelogues and biographies. There are no fundamental changes to the monthly sheet compared to 1914; Pieth's broad program was followed with varying degrees of loyalty by the editorial offices.

The monthly newspaper appeared monthly until 1957, then "mixed" monthly and bimonthly with double issues and since 1988 in six editions per year. Five issues have appeared since 2003 and four issues a year in 2016. Since 1988 the Association for Bündner Kulturforschung has been the publisher of the Bündner monthly newspaper . At that time, the format was enlarged a little and the appearance modernized. On August 1, 1997, Casanova Druck und Verlag AG in Chur took over production and, at the beginning of 2003, the Association for Bündner Kulturforschung VBK and Bündner Heimatschutz BHS. The editor is Ludmila Seifert-Uherkovich, she is supported by VBK and BHS employees as well as other employees, depending on the topic.
