The Institut für Kulturforschung Graubünden (official abbreviation ikg ) is supported by the Verein für Bündner Kulturforschung (VBK ), which has existed since 1985, and is the institutional umbrella for cultural studies research that affects the canton of Graubünden . The institute is domiciled in the old town of Chur on Reichsgasse . There has been a branch in Sils in the Engadin / Segl since 2005 .

Georg Jäger was the manager for many years until his retirement in 2009 . Until May 2017 the institute was led by Marius Risi, today Cordula Seger is the institute director.

The focus of research is on the history of the Graubünden settlement including the building culture (here, in part, cooperation with the Bündner Heimatschutz is carried out ), the development of multilingualism in the trilingual canton, folklore, and the history of art and music .

A research council made up of lecturers from Swiss universities and technical colleges accompanies the research projects.

The institute is subsidized in equal parts by the canton of Graubünden, which does not have its own university, and the Confederation.
