FV 08 Geisenheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FV 08 Geisenheim is a football club in the Hessian Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis .

The football club, which was founded in May 1908, was promoted to the A-class in 1910 and, after the First World War, had climbed the then first-class Rheinhessen regional league in the 1921/22 round . There the black and whites had to deal with SV Wiesbaden , TSG Höchst , FV 02 Biebrich , Germania Wiesbaden , FC Alemannia Griesheim , FC Unterliederbach and FV Viktoria Griesheim .

After the end of the Second World War, the 08 series commuted between the A-class and the 2nd amateur league before the outstanding youth work aroused hope for the Hessian amateur upper house.

In 1961 the players Franz-Josef Hönig and Wilfried Leydecker successfully returned to the 2nd amateur league. In the round 1962/63 they celebrated in Geisenheim winning the championship in the 2nd amateur league and thus moved into the promotion round to the 1st amateur league Hessen. The decider in Bad Homburg was lost with 2: 3 goals against Eintracht Wetzlar and thus the 08ers did not move into the Hessian upper house. In this round, the outstanding strikers Hönig and Leydecker received appointments to the German national football team of amateurs and also represented the colors of the DFB in the German-German qualifying games against the GDR in September 1963 to qualify for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The Geisenheimers immediately celebrated their second title win in the 2nd amateur league in 1963/64, but SC Opel Rüsselsheim prevailed in the promotion round . After the renewed failure in the promotion round, the strikers Hönig switched to Holstein Kiel and Leydecker to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . The 08er spent the years 1965 to 1968 in the group league south and in 1968 suffered relegation to the district class. In 1971 the new Rheingau stadium “Kellersgrube” was handed over to its intended purpose and in 1976 “Bubi” Hönig returned to the former “soccer pride of the Rheingau” as a player coach. The highs at the beginning of the 60s did not come back, however, the FV Geisenheim 08 belonged to the lower district classes over the years.
