Rheinwald is a municipality in the Viamala region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It covers most of the valley of the same name with the towns of Hinterrhein , Nufenen , Medels in the Rheinwald and Splügen .

On January 1, 2019, the previous political municipalities of Splügen, Hinterrhein and Nufenen merged to form the new political municipality of Rheinwald. The municipality of Sufers remained independent after the merger of all municipalities in the Rheinwald in 2016 due to the no of the Sufner electorate.
