Location of the Anta da Casa dos Galhardos in Portugal.

The Anta da Casa dos Galhardos , also called Anta dos Galhardos or Anta do Galhardo , is a megalithic complex about 150 m southwest of Monte do Galhardo , in the municipality ( Portuguese Freguesia ) Santa Maria da Devesa in the district ( Portuguese Concelho ) Castelo de Vide , Portalegre district in northeastern Alentejo .

Anta , Mámoa , Dolmen , Orca and Lapa are the common names in Portugal for the approximately 5000 megalithic structures that were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the Cardial or Imprint culture .

Monument preservation

The complex was excavated by Pereira da Costa in 1867–1868 and described in 1959 by Georg and Vera Leisner .

The megalithic tomb was registered and protected as a Monumento Nacional in 1910 and is accessible to the public via the PR 2 Torrinha ( Portuguese Percursos pedestres ) of the Cidade Castelo de Vide, on which the Anta do Pincho and Anta dos Pombais are also located.

Finding

The polygonal burial chamber is formed by seven granite bearing stones ( orthostats ) and was probably closed with a capstone, the broken remains of which were found inside the chamber. Six of the seven irregular triangular bearing stones were found in situ . Three of the bearing stones, which are slightly inclined inwards, are still at their original height, the others are broken at the level of the ground.

The complex was built without a corridor and the former hill ( mámoa ) of the grave has hardly been preserved.

Finds

No information is available about any finds from the excavation from 1867–1868.
