languages
Originally, the inhabitants of all three communities spoke Sutselvisch , a Graubünden Romance dialect. In 1880 the communities were almost monolingual. In 1910, 85% and 88% respectively still spoke Romansh. Little changed until World War II, and in 1970 144 of the 169 inhabitants were Romansh. While the majority of the population in Donath speaks Romansh today, Patzen-Fardün had a German-speaking majority for the first time in 2000.
