Consejo Regulador del Tequila

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Consejo Regulador del Tequila, AC (Regulatory Council for Tequila), CRT for short , is the supervisory authority acting on behalf of the Mexican government, which monitors compliance with the legal standards and regulations for the production and marketing of tequila . The CRT was founded in 1993 and is based in Zapopan .

As a quality assurance company, the CRT is both a control unit and a certification body. With the award of a NOM (for Norma Oficial Mexicana ) and a DOT (for Denominación de Orígen Tequila ), he certifies the authenticity of the respective production facility. The numbers can be found on the bottle labels.

The NOM confirms the correctness of the components. Tequila may only be made from blue agave ( Agave tequilana Weber, azul, Agavaceae ).

The DOT confirms the compliance of the producer region. It ensures that tequila is only produced in the designated regions (in the entire state of Jalisco and in selected municipalities of Guanajuato , Michoacán , Nayarit and Tamaulipas ). No drink produced in other parts of Mexico or abroad may be called tequila.
