Tumegl / Tomils (Rhaeto-Romanic Tumegl , German and until 1943 officially Tomils ) is a village in the political municipality of Domleschg in the district of Domleschg in the Viamala region of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland .

Description: A golden crown in blue over a seven-pointed golden (yellow) star . The parish seal from the 19th century shows a coronation of Mary . For the coat of arms, the seal image was reduced to the symbols star and crown.
geography
The former municipality lies on the western slope of the Stätzerhorn chain in Domleschg . It reached from the Hinterrhein up to 1200 m and included the village Tumegl / Tomils (801 m), Ortenstein Castle (754 m), the hamlet of Rofna (901 m), Mulegns (682 m) and Mos (1014 m). Of the entire former municipal area of 321 hectares, 179 hectares were forested and 16 hectares were unproductive. At least 109 hectares could be used for agriculture. The remaining 17 hectares were settlement areas.
history
On January 1st, 2009 Tumegl / Tomils merged with Feldis / Veulden , Scheid and Trans to form the municipality of Tomils . As a result of the merger of Tomils, Almens , Paspels , Pratval and Rodels , Tumegl / Tomils has belonged to the new municipality of Domleschg since January 1, 2015 and is therefore a fraction of Domleschg.

languages
Originally, the residents of the community spoke Sutselvisch , a Graubünden Romance dialect. In 1880 87% and in 1910 73% said Romansh was their main language. The decline of the original language has continued to this day. In 1941, 59% were still speaking Romansh. After that, the community gradually turned to German. German speakers have been in the majority since 1970 and Romansh is losing ground on a large scale. The following table shows the development since 1980:

Origin and nationality
Of the 355 residents at the end of 2005, 337 (= 95%) were Swiss citizens.
Attractions
- The Ortenstein Castle is located below the village . It is privately owned and cannot be viewed.
- The largest coherent wall painting by Hans Ardüser can be found in the Catholic Church .
- Above the village there were ruins of an early medieval church building Sogn Murezi .
