Joe Coleman

Joe Coleman (* 22. November 1955 in Norwalk , Connecticut as Joseph Coleman Jr. ) is an American painter .

Coleman was born the son of a war veteran and the grandson of a well-known prize boxer. His work is strongly influenced by popular genres such as folk art and comics, and the filigree richness of detail in his paintings has also been compared with works of outsider art and allegories by Hieronymus Bosch . Most of his pictures are portraits of well-known people who are the subject of modern myths. In addition to film stars and musicians, this also includes well-known mass and serial killers . Coleman exhibits in international galleries, the owners of his works include Iggy Pop, Johnny Depp, Jim Jarmusch and HR Giger.

In 2012, Kunst-Werke Berlin showed his installation A Holy Ghost Compares Its Hooves as part of the One on One exhibition .
