The Futsal World Cup is held every four years-find tournament in which the best national teams in the Futsal the world championship play. The competition has been organized by the world football association FIFA since 1989 .

qualification

By 2004 , 16 teams took part in the finals. For the Futsal World Cup in Brazil in 2008 , the field of participants was increased to 20 teams and for the 2012 tournament in Thailand to 24 teams. The participants are selected from qualifying tournaments and the respective continental championships. The host is automatically qualified in each case.

mode

The preliminary round is currently played in six groups of four teams each. In each group, everyone plays once against each other. The two best teams in each group and the four best thirds in the group reach the round of 16. From this point on, the game will be played in the knockout system until the final.

Awards

At the end of each Futsal World Cup, several awards are given to the best players and fairest teams. There are currently four different awards:

  • the Adidas Golden Ball for the best player
  • the Adidas Golden Boot for the top scorer
  • the Adidas Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper
  • the FIFA Fair Play Award for the fairest team
