The Russian national futsal team is a representative selection of Russian futsal players . The team represents the Russian Football Association at international matches. The selection is one of the strongest teams in Europe, in 1999 the team became European champions .
Performing in tournaments
Russia has so far participated in all seven European championships. The greatest success was celebrated in 1999 when they defeated Spain 4-2 in the final after shooting from six meters. In 1996 and 2005 they lost to Spain in the final, in 2001 and 2007 they finished third in the European Championship.
The national team qualified four times for World Cup finals under the auspices of FIFA . When first participating in 1992 did not get beyond the preliminary round. Four years later they reached the semi-finals, in which they lost Brazil 2-6. The following game for 3rd place was won 3-2 against Ukraine. At the 2000 World Cup they reached the semi-finals again, but lost 3-2 to Spain and also lost the game for third place against Portugal. In 2004, surprisingly, the selection of Bosnia-Herzegovina failed in the first qualifying phase.
