The world champion
Top favorite Brazil had start problems in Group B at the beginning. Brazil lost 3-2 to Hungary sensationally. Only after the defeat did the Express get going, they beat Saudi Arabia 8-0 and Spain 4-1. In the second group stage they overran Paraguay 5-1 and won a 6-3 win over Argentina. Brazil only played for group victory against the USA , which also had two wins to date. Surprisingly, the Brazilians suffered their second defeat in the tournament, with a 5-3 victory the US team became group winners. In the semi-finals, the South Americans played against Belgium, who were able to beat the hosts in their group. After extra time it was 3: 3 against Belgium. Now the six-meter shoot-out had to decide, which the South Americans won 5-3. In the final, the hosts Netherlands met in front of 4,200 spectators. Benatti took the lead at the beginning for Brazil, the Dutch equalized through Loosveld. But in the 46th minute of the game Raul scored the 2-1 lead, which they no longer gave up. Brazil became the first futsal world champion.
