The meetings took place in two halls in Bangkok and one in Nakhon Ratchasima . Defending champions Brazil won their fifth title with a 3-2 win after extra time against Spain.

Hosts and venues

Thailand was awarded the contract on March 19, 2010, and Iran had also expressed interest in hosting the event. After Hong Kong in 1992 and Taiwan in 2004 , the Futsal World Cup took place in Asia for the third time. The games took place in two halls in the capital Bangkok and in one hall in Nakhon Ratchasima .

The fourth venue was originally the Bangkok Futsal Arena , which was newly built in 2012 . However, due to delays and deficiencies during the construction phase, caused by heavy rainfall, the criteria and safety requirements of FIFA could not be met, so that the planned matches of the preliminary and final round were moved to the other two arenas in Bangkok.

Attendees

The field of participants was increased from 20 to 24 teams. Host Thailand qualified automatically.

referee

In futsal, two referees trained according to the futsal rules are deployed. These have the unrestricted authority to enforce the rules of the game in the respective game. At the World Cup games, a substitute assistant referee was also used, who supported the two referees in particular with substitutions.

A total of 38 referees were nominated by FIFA for the World Cup. The presented UEFA ten, the AFC and CONMEBOL eight, the CONCACAF six that CAF four and the OFC two GM.

Brazil and Panama were the only nations that each provided two referees. Another special feature was that Brazil had Renata Leite, the only referee in the men's team. The youngest referee was the 28 year old Rex Kamusu from the Solomon Islands while the 45 year old Brazilian Sandro Brechane was the senior referee . No referee was nominated from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where futsal plays a rather subordinate role.

The 39-year-old Peruvian Héctor Rojas , who played at the 2008 Futsal World Cup, has been appointed to lead the final between Brazil and Spain . The Angolan Jose Katemo was nominated for the game for third place between Italy and Colombia .
