Performing in tournaments

As the host, Egypt won the first two African Championships and was also victorious in the third event in 2004. In 2008 they lost to the hosts in the final in Libya 3: 4 after extra time.

With four World Cup participations, Egypt is Africa's record holder. The greatest success came in 2000 when they moved into the intermediate round after victories over Uruguay and Thailand. There they surprisingly won 6: 4 against Russia and were about to move into the semi-finals. In the decisive game against Argentina a draw would have been enough, but Egypt lost just 3: 4.
