The 8th European Futsal Championship was held from January 31 to February 11, 2012 in Croatia . Twelve national teams took part in the tournament, initially in groups and then in a knockout system . The Spanish selection won the European Championship title for the fourth time in a row and secured their sixth tournament success with a 3-1 win over Russia.
The European Championship was held for the fourth time at two different venues. The main venue was the Arena Zagreb in the capital, Zagreb , in which, in addition to the preliminary round groups B and D and two quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final also took place. With a capacity of 15,024 spectators, the hall is the largest in Croatia.
The Spaladium Arena in Split served as the second venue. In addition to the preliminary round groups A and C, the second largest sports hall in Croatia with 10,931 spectators was also the venue for two quarter-finals.

The 2012 European Championship was played for the second time with twelve teams. Croatia automatically qualified as hosts. A total of 42 nations competed for the remaining eleven places. In the first round, the 24 teams with the worst UEFA coefficient played against each other in four groups. The group winners advanced to the next round, where they were drawn into six groups of four together with the 18 remaining teams. The group first and the five best second finally qualified for the finals.
