The Arena Zagreb is a multifunctional hall in the Croatian capital Zagreb . It is located at the western entrance to the city in the Lanište district .

history

The hall is intended for sports and cultural events as well as festive occasions. It has a capacity of 16,500 seats including boxes, and even 22,400 for concerts. The hall was built for the 2009 men's handball world championship .

A consortium consisting of the Croatian Ingra and the Hungarian TriGránit was selected and commissioned for the tender . The project office UPI-2M doo from Zagreb created the project documentation for the construction of the arena. Work began on July 20, 2007 after the building permit was granted. The hall was opened on December 27, 2008.

The hall is intended for the following sports events: handball , basketball , ice hockey , volleyball , indoor football , tennis , table tennis , gymnastics , badminton , boxing , wrestling , athletics and other indoor sports. In addition, concerts, exhibitions and congresses can be held in it. It also includes restaurants, business and commercial rooms and a small training hall.

In January 2011, the Zagreb ice hockey club KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga used the Arena Zagreb for four of its home games, with a total of over 60,000 spectators attending the games.

The underground car park accommodates 926 vehicles, 80 additional parking spaces are available outside, while a bus stop for 38 buses is also being built for mass events.

A shopping center called Arena Centar with 62,000 m² for 200 shops was built by the investor TriGránit on the neighboring property next to the sports arena . The shopping center was opened at the beginning of November 2010.
