The Eugen-Haas-Halle is a sports hall in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Gummersbach . It was the home ground of the German handball club VfL Gummersbach until 2013 and offers 2,100 seats. The hall is named after Eugen Haas , the long-time president of VfL Gummersbach who died in 1995.

history

A game in the EHF Cup on April 26, 2009 between VfL Gummersbach and BM Aragón .

Since the beginning of professional handball at VfL Gummersbach, the hall has served as the home ground of the Oberberg handball club. In the 2008/09 season, almost all home games took place in Cologne's Lanxess Arena . Since moving to the multifunctional hall, which was oversized for everyday use in the Bundesliga, did not pay off economically, they returned to Oberbergisches. However, some of the EHF Cup games were played in the Eugen-Haas-Halle in the same season.

Due to the low capacity of the Eugen-Haas-Halle, the Schwalbe-Arena with around 4,100 seats has been built since October 17, 2012 and inaugurated on August 9 and 10, 2013 in time for the new first division season with a four-way tournament in the old and new venues . Despite the new hall in Gummersbach, the presidium of the handball Bundesliga decided in August 2012 that the Eugen Haas hall had to be rebuilt for the 2012/13 season. The content of the renovation work is upgrading the lighting to a level of 1,200 lux and building a second grandstand.

After VfL moved out, the handball players from TV Strombach from the district of the same name used it as the main venue. Both men and women are currently playing in the fourth-class handball league .
