Eugen Haas

Eugen Haas (born July 15, 1916 in Gummersbach ; † July 22, 1995 there ) was a German entrepreneur and handball official .

Life

Eugen Haas grew up in Gummersbach and played field handball at VfL Gummersbach . After the Second World War he lived briefly in southern Germany, but then returned to Gummersbach, where he built up an office furniture business.

From 1954 he was in charge of the handball department of VfL Gummersbach, which he formed into a top European team. The club won under his leadership twelve German Handball Championships , five times each the DHB Cup and European champions as national champion , twice each the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the Club Europe Championship and once the IHF Cup .

After winning the first all-German championship in 1991 , Haas withdrew from the leadership of the team for health reasons.

The Eugen-Haas-Halle , in which VfL Gummersbach played its home games in the handball Bundesliga until 2013 , bears his name.
