The handball Bundesliga 2016/17 (full name after the main sponsor DKB Handball-Bundesliga 2016/17 ) was the 39th of the single-track seasons and the 51st season of the highest German division in men's handball in the history of the Bundesliga . The season began on September 2, 2016 and ended with the last matchday on June 10, 2017.

The Rhein-Neckar Löwen became German champions . Relegated to the 2nd handball Bundesliga 2017/18 were Bergischer HC , HBW Balingen-Weilstetten and HSC 2000 Coburg . HC Erlangen , TSV GWD Minden and HSC 2000 Coburg were promoted to the new season .

The DHB Cup , which was played for the 43rd time , was won by the THW Kiel team .
