Rittal , based in Herborn , Hesse, is a German system provider for control cabinets , power distribution , air conditioning , IT infrastructure and software and service. System solutions from Rittal are used, among other things, in machine and plant construction, in the food and beverage industry, and in the IT and telecommunications sector.

Rittal was founded in 1961 and is the largest company in the owner-managed Friedhelm Loh Group . The company employs 9,700 people in 8 production facilities and 58 subsidiaries. The German production sites are Herborn, Rittershausen , Hof (Westerwald) , Haiger ( Industry 4.0 ) and Ewersbach .

The company is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified . The chairman of the management is Karl-Ulrich Köhler .

The name Rittal is made up of the geographical location of the founding place, Rit tershausen in the Dietzhölz valley .

In cooperation with its sister company EPLAN , Rittal is digitizing customers' processes with consistent data from engineering and production to logistics and commercial processes. Since 2016, Rittal has been building one of the world's most modern plants for the production of compact enclosures at the Haiger site . The basis of the concept is the introduction of modern workflow and production processes from the customer's order to delivery to the customer. The plant will start networked production in 2018. The Rittal plants in Rittershausen and Hof will also be geared towards Industry 4.0 standards . Another plant is built in Dietzhölztal-Ewersbach. With the realignment of production, the company is investing around 250 million euros in the region.

Awards

  • "Top 100 Innovator": In 2017, Rittal was awarded the Top 100 Innovator Prize, which honors the 100 most innovative companies in Germany.
  • "Top Employer": In 2020, the Friedhelm Loh Group and Rittal were awarded the "Top Employer Germany" seal of approval by the Top Employers Institute for the twelfth time in a row. The seal of approval stands for the outstanding quality of the corporate and employer culture.
  • “German Industry Innovation Prize”: In 2015, the management consultancy Staufen AG and the trade magazine Produktion awarded the Blue e + generation of refrigerators from Rittal with the German Innovation Prize for the best product of the year. According to the jury, the decisive factors were the high energy efficiency of the devices of up to 75 percent, a reduction in CO 2 emissions of 75 percent and the devices' innovative hybrid technology.
  • "Fair Company": Rittal has been awarded the " Fair Company " seal of approval , which certifies that the institute treats interns fairly.

criticism

Rittal is often criticized by unions. For example, IG Metall pointed out the situation of temporary workers to Rittal in 2010. The corporate works council of the company took the management and the company owner Friedhelm Loh under protection and accused IG Metall of a "debate of envy".

As of spring 2012, the works council and trade unions campaigned for a company collective agreement at Rittal. In May and early June 2012, there were several warning strikes among the workforce. A warning strike in front of the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar during Hessentag caused a particular stir .

Sponsorship

Rittal is a sponsor of the HSG Wetzlar and various foot and handball clubs in the region. Since March 1, 2006, the company has taken on the name sponsorship of the Mittelhessen Arena in Wetzlar , which is now called the Rittal Arena Wetzlar . In addition, Rittal was Premium Sponsor of the Hessentag 2016 in Herborn .
