Fair Company is an initiative that was developed by the job and business magazine Junge Karriere . Young Career was - until it was discontinued in 12/2009 - a monthly magazine from the Handelsblatt publishing group . The initiative was founded in October 2004 by the then editor-in-chief Jörn Hüsgen together with 37 member companies. Since then, the Fair Company logo has been awarded to companies that speak out against the exploitation of young academics and act accordingly. The editorial team of karriere.de has been responsible for the initiative since 2011 .

criteria

In order to participate, companies must meet six criteria, which they commit to in writing every year.

Participating companies

At the start of the initiative, 37 companies received the logo; as of November 2014 there are over 700. The companies come from all sectors across Germany and range from small start-ups to medium-sized companies to corporations.

control

Compliance with the Fair Company rules is constantly checked. A two-pillar feedback system was introduced in 2013. For the first pillar, the Fair Company actively encourage interns to use a questionnaire to share their experiences with the editorial team after their period of employment. The second pillar is the “Red Card” contact address on the website: This is where interns can report company violations. To clarify the complaint, the editors of karriere.de contact the contact person for the initiative in the company directly. In the event of two verifiable violations, according to the editorial team, they are excluded from the initiative.

Publications

The FairCompany Guide appears once a year as a supplement to the Handelsblatt . The magazine lists companies that have been registered as "Fair Company" before going to press.

Patrons

The current Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs or Federal Minister for Economics and Labor (2004–2005) took over the patronage until 2013 :
