Young career

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Junge Karriere was a monthly magazine of the Handelsblatt publishing group for the start of a career with a circulation of around 145,000 copies (IVW II / 2009). It was last published on December 23, 2009. Under the name Handelsblatt Karriere , the magazine for beginners and climbers is now published twice a year as a supplement to the Handelsblatt. In addition to this print product, the magazine lives on as an online platform karriere.de .

The editor-in-chief was initially Annette Eicker (2001 to 2003), who is considered the founding editor-in-chief . In 2003 Jörn Hüsgen replaced her as the new editor-in-chief (2003 to 2007). During this time, the magazine's circulation grew to around 150,000 copies, which it held until the end. Hüsgen launched a series of initiatives such as Fair Company , the “Career of the Year” competition and the “Career University Ranking”. Several offshoots such as “Karriere Abi”, “Fair Company Guide” and “Applicant Guide” were launched at this time, and they continue to appear annually.

In 2007/2008, as part of a restructuring program by the Handelsblatt publishing group, the independent editorial team was dissolved. Since then, a department of the Handelsblatt has produced the magazine as well as the supplement “Perspektiven”. The managing editor since 2007 was Sven Scheffler , who revised the magazine and editorially developed the weekly supplement “Perspektiven”. In the summer of 2008, he moved to Handelsblatt.com as editor-in-chief. His successor was Tanja Kewes .

The title has been renamed several times: from its founding to January 2005, it traded as Junge Karriere , then until April 2007 as Karriere - The young job and business magazine and then as Handelsblatt Junge Karriere .

Anne Koschik has been editor-in-chief of karriere.de since 2011 . The advice and orientation portal brings together career topics with offers for job search and the applicant market.

Editorial office

Until 2007, the publication was produced by an independent editorial team under editor-in-chief Jörn Hüsgen at the headquarters of the Handelsblatt publishing group in Düsseldorf . After his departure, the magazine was created as a supplement by a department of the Handelsblatt for a transitional period until the monthly title was finally discontinued. Through the Handelsblatt publishing group, Junge Karriere belonged to the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group . The editorial office of karriere.de , an offer from Handelsblatt GmbH, is based in Cologne.

Content

Young careers were aimed at students, graduates and young professionals. The magazine wanted to provide orientation for studies, applications and first jobs. In addition, the magazine presented companies as employers, named industry trends and salaries and provided information about study opportunities in a university ranking. These topics have been offered on the karriere.de website since 2011 and supplemented by other services: application and career tips, an internship exchange, an unsolicited application platform and a job market.

The magazine was divided into the sections “work”, “study” and “special”. The online portal covers the areas of studies, internships and entry-level jobs, careers, salaries and the job market. In principle, the reader is not expected to have any economic expertise.

Special publications

The product family also includes Handelsblatt Karriere abi , a booklet for pupils in the qualification phase, which is distributed once a year with a circulation of 160,000 copies to secondary schools and is also made available electronically free of charge on karriere.de as a flippage .

The Handelsblatt career applicant guide appears once a year as a supplement to the business newspaper and is also distributed at recruiting events and trade fairs.

The Handelsblatt Fair Company Guide appears once a year with news on internship and career entry topics as well as a list of important participants in the Fair Company initiative, the rules of which are explained in the booklet. The guide provides information and orientation and is included with the Handelsblatt. It is also presented at trade fairs and recruiting events.

Once a year, the book “Top Employers in Germany” was published in collaboration with the Corporate Research Foundation and the Gefa Institute .

Rankings

University ranking: Young Career published its university ranking once a year . For different subjects, it determined which university would best prepare its students for the job. According to their own information, more than 51,000 students and graduates as well as 1,000 HR managers from large companies were surveyed.

Most popular employers: Junge Karriere published the results of an image study by the recruiting service provider Access every year , in which the most popular employers were identified, always alternating between students and young professionals.
