In November 2001 the domain buecher.de, the brand and design rights to this brand and the company from Mediantis AG (formerly buecher.de AG) from Tutzing, affected by liquidation, were taken over . With the purchase of the much better known brand, Booxtra was able to multiply its sales.
The company has been run as buecher.de GmbH & Co KG since 2005 and achieved a turnover of 25 million euros this year. Managing Director Driever left his post at buecher.de in 2007 and Gerd Robertz took over as his successor. Sales rose in 2007 to EUR 31 million. Eight years later, Clemens Todd and Günter Hilger took over the management of buecher.de.
Founding shareholders of the company (at that time still under the name booxtra) were T-Online International AG, Verlagsgruppe Weltbild GmbH, Holtzbrinck NetworXs GmbH (a subsidiary of the Stuttgart publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH) and the Berlin publisher Axel Springer SE . T-Online got out in the spring of 2007, the remaining three shareholders have each held 33.3% since then. At the end of 2013, Weltbild took over the Holtzbrinck share. In 2014 Springer sold its stake to Weltbild, a company that is now part of the Droege Group . Special Multi Channel Holding, which belongs to the Droege Group, has been the company's sole shareholder since January 2017.
