The Mediantis AG is a bookselling company on the Internet . It was founded as EBdirekt GmbH and then buecher.de AG by Richard von Rheinbaben in 1996 and was listed on the Neuer Markt from 1999 to 2001 . From 2001 to 2004 the company was in liquidation (no insolvency) and sold essential parts of the business for around 6 million euros. In 2004 normal business operations were resumed.

Until 2011, mediantis operated the Central Directory of Antiquarian Books (ZVAB), an internet marketplace for second-hand bookshops . In spring 2011, the ZVAB operational area was sold; at the same time the book search engine eurobuch.com was taken over.

Phoenix Art Prize

As part of cultural sponsorship, mediantis AG has been awarding the Phönix Art Prize, endowed with 20,000 euros, since 2011, which is awarded to young artists in the field of visual arts . The award is linked to an exhibition in the Villa Kustermann in Tutzing . The Phönix Art Prize is a continuation of the ZVAB-Phönix Art Prize , which was awarded from 2005 to 2010 through the operational area of ​​the ZVAB. In 2014 it was awarded for the first time in cooperation with the Evangelical Academy Tutzing .
