The 2016/17 DHB Women's Cup was the 43rd staging of the most important German indoor handball cup competition for women. The 2017 DHB Cup winner was Buxtehuder SV , who defeated TuS Metzingen in the final with 24:23. The defending champion was HC Leipzig .

None of the twelve Bundesliga clubs of the 2015/16 season who were not relegated took part in the first round . The draw took place on July 2, 2016 on the fringes of the general assembly of the handball Bundesliga women in Rotenburg an der Fulda , with the individual games drawn from four regionally divided groups of lots. The first round games took place on the weekend of September 3, 2016. The winners moved into the 2nd round.

In addition to the winners of the first round, the 12 Bundesliga clubs of the 2015/16 season who were not relegated took part in the second round . The draw for the games took place on September 6, 2016 at the HBF office in Dortmund and took place in two groups of lots, which were divided according to geographical criteria. The game was played on the weekend around October 1st, 2016. The winners of the individual games advance to the round of 16.
