Albanians in Canada
The Albanians in Canada ( Albanian Shqiptarët në Canada , English Albanians in Canada or Canada Albanians or Albanian Canadian ) are an ethnic minority and part of the Albanian diaspora . Some of their relatives have Canadian citizenship and some of their country of origin. The Albanians come not only from Albania , but also from other countries with a large Albanian population such as Kosovo , North Macedonia , Greece , Serbia , Montenegro and Italy . The Albanians in Canada have different religions and are Orthodox Christians , Evangelical , Catholic , Sunni- Muslim or Bektashi .
Demographics
In the 2011 Canadian census, a total of 28,270 people declared Albanian ancestry. Regions with a high proportion of the Albanian population are the cities of Toronto , Montreal and Edmonton .
societies
Many Albanian organizations have emerged in Canada in recent years with the aim of reminding the ethnic community in Canada of their Albanian identity. Many of these organizations are based in Toronto. The largest associations include the Albanian Muslim Society of Toronto (founded in 1954) and the Albanian-Canadian Community Association of Toronto (founded in 1990). There are other famous organizations such as the Albanian-Canadian Organization of Ottawa.
