Albanians in Argentina
The Albanians in Argentina ( Albanian Shqiptarët në Argjentinë , Spanish Albaneses en Argentina ) are an ethnic minority in the country. Exact figures are not available, but the Diaspora Ministry of the Republic of Kosovo , which has no direct contacts, estimates their number at around 50,000. In November 2015, the Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati visited the local diaspora community.
Most of the Albanians in Argentina are Arbëresh . The Arbëresh are an Albanian-speaking population group who have lived in southern Italy since the 15th century. With European immigration to American states, a considerable number of Arbëresh, i.e. H. Albanians to have come to Argentina.
In the Palermo district of Buenos Aires there is an Arbëresh congregation of several hundred people, which has come together in the "Frashineto" association. They explain that they come from the town of Frashineto in Calabria and that they emigrated to Argentina in the inter-war period because of the poor economic conditions in Italy.
In Buenos Aires there is an Albanian Orthodox parish around the bishop Aleksandër.
