The Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Albanian  Ministria e Punëve të Jashtme ; acronym: MPJ ) is responsible for Albania's foreign policy and is part of the government . It has existed as an institution since December 4, 1912 and is based in Tirana .

The Minister for Foreign Affairs ( Ministri i Punëve të Jashtme , best. Sing.) Was Ditmir Bushati ( PS ) until the end of 2018 , after which Prime Minister Edi Rama himself took over , but transferred the administration to his deputy Gent Cakaj . In addition to the Foreign Minister, there are two Deputy Foreign Ministers ( Zëvendësministri i Punëve të Jashtme ), a Secretary General ( Secretari i Përgjithshëm ) and ten Undersecretaries ( Drejtori ).

Seat and location

The headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located at  6 Gjergj Fishta Boulevard in Tirana. The ministry building stands directly on the Lana river and is in the 3rd district ( Njësia bashkiake No. 3 ) east of the center. The headquarters of the Albanian Police are also nearby .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs includes 55 ambassadors (as of 2010) to sovereign states and international organizations who regularly inform the government .
