The Policia e Shtetit ( Albanian for "Police of the State") is the police force in Albania . Management is taken over by the General Directorate (alb. Drejtoria e Përgjithshme ), which is part of the Department against Organized Crime and Serious Crimes, the Department for Public Security (including traffic police directorate and special units "RENEA" and "FNSH"), the Department for Border and Migration , the Department of Support Services and the Department of Police Training. General director is Haki Çako .
Since the fall of the dictatorship in 1990/91, the police force has been continuously reduced from 21,000 in 1992 to 12,000 in 2001.
Albania is divided territorially into twelve local police departments in the Qarks .
Publicist and former minister Ben Blushi of the Socialist Party claims in his book Hëna e Shqipërisë (Moon of Albania) that the police consist of 10% supporters of the Hizmet movement ( Gylenxhi ) of Fethullah Gulen .
