Mateo Musacchio (born August 26, 1990 in Rosario ) is an Argentine football player who plays for AC Milan and the Argentine national team . He prefers to play as a central defender .

Career

Club career

Musacchio started his professional career in 2006 with River Plate in the first Argentine soccer league . He had his first use at the age of 16 when he came on on December 10, 2006 in a game against CA Vélez Sársfield . In the following years he gained his first professional experience before moving to the Spanish first division club Villarreal in August 2009 .

In his first season in Spain he was used for both the first and the second team of the club, but in the 2010/11 season , with 27 appearances, he was already part of the professional squad. Also in the following two seasons he was a regular player, with the team relegated from the first division. On September 1, 2012 in a game against CD Guadalajara , he scored his first goal for the first team. After a year in the 2nd division, coach Marcelino García Toral's team made a direct return to the Primera División in the summer of 2013.

For the 2017/18 season he moved to the Italian first division club AC Milan after 189 league games for Villareal .

National team

In 2011, Musacchio, who had already played several youth national teams, came to his only appearances for the senior national team of Argentina. On June 1, 2011, he played 27 minutes against Nigeria , four days later in a 2-1 draw against Poland , he played his first full-distance game.
