Alessio Romagnoli (born January 12, 1995 in Anzio ) is an Italian football player . The defender is under contract with AC Milan and is an Italian international .

Career

AS Roma

Romagnoli began playing football in the youth of AS Roma , which he attended until summer 2013. However, he made his professional debut in the Coppa Italia game against Atalanta Bergamo (3-0) on December 11, 2012 at the age of 17 . Just eleven days later, he played his first Serie A game against AC Milan (4-2). In the 2012/13 season he came to another use on March 3, 2013, in the game against CFC Genoa .

Romagnoli has been part of the Roma squad since the 2013/14 season and regularly appears under Rudi Garcia . He scored his first Serie A goal on February 16, 2014 in the game against Sampdoria Genoa . On September 1, 2014 AS Roma announced that Romagnoli would be loaned to Sampdoria Genoa for a period of one year.

Sampdoria Genoa

Under head coach Siniša Mihajlović Romagnoli immediately became an important regular player in central defense. Romagnoli played a total of 31 competitive games for Sampdoria Genoa and scored 2 goals. The club finished the 2014/15 season in 7th place in the table and was thus allowed to participate in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League .

AC Milan

2015/16 season

Romagnoli moved to AC Milan on August 12, 2015, where he signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2020. The new head coach at AC Milan was Siniša Mihajlović and, just like in the previous season at Sampdoria Genoa , he relied on Romagnoli as a regular in central defense. Romagnoli made 40 competitive appearances in his first season in Milan and reached the final of the Italian Cup with AC Milan, which Juventus Turin won 1-0 in extra time. AC Milan ended the season in 7th place in the table.

Season 2016/17

As a cup finalist, AC Milan faced reigning champions and cup winners Juventus Turin in the Italian Super Cup . The Super Cup was held in Qatar in December 2016. AC Milan won 5: 4 on penalties, Romagnoli was on the pitch for the full 120 minutes. The team finished the season in 6th place in the table and was thus allowed to participate in the qualification for the UEFA Europa League . Romagnoli scored a total of one goal in 29 competitive appearances and was an important part of the defense chain even under new coach Vincenzo Montella .

Season 2017/18

Former Milan player Gennaro Gattuso became the new head coach at AC Milan in November 2017 and, just like his predecessors, Romagnoli was a key performance and leadership game in the starting XI. The league ended the AC Milan in 6th place in the table, in the UEFA Europa League they failed in the round of 16 at Arsenal and the cup final was lost 4-0 to Juventus Turin . Romagnoli played 42 competitive games and scored 3 goals.

Season 2018/19

At the beginning of the season Romagnoli was named the new captain of AC Milan, his predecessor Leonardo Bonucci moved to Juventus Turin . The 2018/19 season was a big disappointment for AC Milan. In the UEFA Europa League they were eliminated in the group stage, in the Super Cup they lost 1-0 to Juventus Turin and in the Cup they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Lazio Rome . The league ended the Milan in 5th place in the table, but AC Milan was excluded from the UEFA Europa League for the coming season due to violations of UEFA's financial fair play . Romagnoli played 41 competitive games and scored 2 goals.

National team

Romagnoli played three, six, twelve and fifteen games for the U-16 , U-17 , U-19 of Italy and U-21 selection from 2011 to 2016 . On October 6, 2016, he made his debut for the Italian national soccer team in the World Cup qualifier against Spain .
